Power Fails - Network Collapsed

Much of India's electricity supply network collapsed Tuesday in the country's second major outage in two days, affecting more than 680 million people—double the population of the U.S.—and causing business losses estimated to run into the hundreds of millions of dollars Thousands of offices and factories had to switch to generators or close shop, more than 200 trains were brought to a standstill while hospitals had to ask nurses to manually work critical equipment such as ventilators as 21 provinces experienced a near-total blackout that raised questions about the infrastructure in Asia's third-largest economy. Metro rail services in the national capital of New Delhi and its suburbs were halted for several hours as well, a spokesman for the Delhi Metro Rail Corp. said. Previously called the NV200, the Evalia is a rather simple looking people-mover, with a tall, upright stance, short bonnet area and sliding doors. Built on the company’s B-platform, the car would be a little over four metres in length and with a wheelbase about 95 mm longer than the company’s SUV, the X-trail. Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal started her Olympics campaign with a win while the mixed doubles pair of Jawala Gutta and V.Diju jeopardised their chances of making the knockout round at the 2012 London Olympics here Sunday. Switzerland's Sabrina Jaquet , the World No.65, proved no match for Saina, World No.5, as the latter romped to a straight games win in the women's singles event. To mark the third day of the London Olympics 2012, Google has replaced its usual logo with a new doodle - London 2012 fencing. The new doodle shows two fencers fighting against each other using bladed weapons. The letter 'L' in "Google" is shown as one of the bladed weapons being used by one of the fencers, while a helmet on the head of a fencer is modishly depicted as the first 'O' of the word "Google". The rest of the letters are placed in the playing area near the boundary. The London 2012 fencing doodle is the fourth London Olympics doodle. Parupalli Kashyap gave India its first win in badminton while the mixed doubles pair of V. Diju and Jwala Gutta went down in their opening group match of the London Olympics at the Wembley Arena here Saturday. Olympic debutant Kashyap beat Yuhan Tan of Belgium in straight games in the men's singles. Kashyap won 21-14, 21-12 in 38 minutes. It was the Indian's second win over Yuhan in three encounters. The 25-year-old Kashyap took a seven point lead early in the first game only to give away a few. Huge cheers welcomed the colourful Indian delegation into the Olympic Park Friday night during the opening ceremony of the London Games. The 81-strong Indian contingent, the biggest ever, was led by wrestler Sushil Kumar, a bronze medallist in the 2008 Beijing Games. It was a smartly dressed Indian contingent. The men wore yellow safas, navy blue blazers, cream-coloured trousers, off-white shirts and ties, and the women were dressed in elegant sarees. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary-general Randhir Singh waved at the contingent from the VIP box.Indians will take part in 13 disciplines.
