Sakshi Malik clinches bronze medal in women’s wrestling 58kg category, opens India’s account at Rio 2016 Olympics India’s Sakshi Malik won a bronze medal in the wrestling 58kg category after the Indian beat Aisuluu Tynybekova 8-5 in the bronze medal bout. In a thrilling contest, Sakshi fought back from 0-5 down to seal the bout 8-5 in her favour. With seconds left on the clock, she produced a three-point move to seal the bout and India’s first medal at Rio 2016 Olympics. It wasn’t an ideal start for the 23-year-old as she conceded a five-point lead early in the contest, and like in three out of the four bouts earlier in the day, she was back from behind to produce the moves when they mattered, and seal the win. Tynybekova started on a positive note as her leg-grab put her in the lead.  She repeated the move again and sat in a comfortable position.  Malik opened the scoring in the second period of the bout when she pushed her opponent down and out of the...

WHAT CRYPTOCURRENCY WILL RULE THE WORLD

CRYPTOCURRENCY IS A FASHION TREND OF THIS YEAR. THERE ARE MORE THAN 650 CRYPTOCURRENCIES EXISTING IN THE WORLD, AND SOME OF THEM HAVE ALREADY CLAIMED TO HAVE GLOBAL INFLUENCE. THIS RAISES A VERY REASONABLE QUESTION: WHAT ARE THE MAIN CRITERIA THAT CRYPTOCURRENCY MUST COMPLY WITH TO BECOME POPULAR AND IN DEMAND GLOBALLY? AND WHO ARE YOU? A POTENTIAL INVESTOR OR JUST AN OBSERVER? Nowadays more and more people begin to realize that the financial system which principles were formed a few centuries ago is already largely archaic and does not meet the needs of modern society. Its rigidity, inefficiency and extremely slow rate of cash flows under ever-increasing costs forced the world to think about an alternative. And in recent years the alternative was found - this is a cryptocurrency! For the majority of the population of our planet, this alternative is still perceived as an extreme exotic which, at the best, raises the curiosity and sometimes even the intention to get to know ...

Saudi King Salman

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman issued a series of directives with the intention of resolving all cases of unpaid salaries and avoid repetition of such incidents in the Kingdom’s labor market in future, Minister of Labor and Social Development Mofrej Al-Haqbani announced on Monday. Accordingly, special teams have been constituted to closely monitor the firms to check whether they are fulfilling their contractual obligations and to intervene in case of violations, the Saudi Press Agency reported.   Saudi Oger contracting company has been the subject of complaints by thousands of its workers for not paying salaries to them for the past nine months.   Al-Haqbani said the recent labor issue is not a common phenomenon but a special case with a contracting company because of its violation of contractual obligations. The ministry will take penal action against the company in line with the Labor Law.   King Salman’s directive obliges companies to pay salaries to their...

Economists say new visa fees will spur private sector efficiency

JEDDAH: The new amendments to visa fees, which were approved during Cabinet’s session on Monday, are expected to increase the levels of economic activities in the country and boost the efficiency of the private sector, according to some economists. They spoke to Arab News welcoming the Kingdom’s latest move. Such steps fall within Saudi Arabia’s efforts to diversify its economy, away from the oil-based industry, they said. John Sfakianakis, director of economic research at the Gulf Research Center, commented: “The measures are intended to help raise much needed non-oil revenues. Traffic fines for violators should be welcomed as this creates more safety and discipline and then numbers should eventually reflect it. Businesses will have to pay an extra cost for travel as per global fee structures. The fee comes from a relatively low base and remains competitive.” Sami A. Al-Nwaisir, chairman of Al-Sami Holding Group, said: “The fees and taxes are good for government. I think th...
