India vs New Zealand testmatch Live cricket

Hyderabad: A reality check awaits Team India as it gears up to begin life without the famed batting duo of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman when they take on a lowly New Zealand in the first Test of the two-match series starting here from Thursday.

Welcome one and all to the first Test between India and New Zealand from Hyderabad.
India are playing a Test match after a gap of seven months and will look to start this season on a high.

New Zealand, on the other hand, are coming off a disastrous tour of the West Indies where they were walloped across all formats. On paper, India look the favorites but New Zealand are capable of putting up a fight.

India and New Zealand are also playing in the U-19 semi-final at Townsville. NZ restricted India to 209/9, with left-arm spinner Ben Horne being the pick of the bowlers with 3/28.

Pitch report: It's evenly rolled, but it's very dry, with no grass whatsoever. We expect the pitch to take turn as the Test match progresses. The pitch has a bit of dampness, which will aid faster bowlers initially. With the humidity around, it might swing, but it will be tough conditions for the Kiwis.

1st Test, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, India, Thu, 23 - Mon, 27 Aug 2012 09:30 AM IST

    Bal Thackeray life history

Views on Bal Thackeray, known as Balasaheb, were as polarised as the politics he practiced.  Known for his caustic tongue, he was idolised by his followers in the Shiv Sena and scorned in equal measure by liberal and secular Indians for his communal, divisive politics that didn't stop with radical expression of views against Muslims and violent action against those opposed to his extreme righwing ideas - including being firmly opposed to the visit of the Pakistani cricket team to India. The cartoonist turned politician was often portrayed as a roaring tiger, the much cherished logo of his party Shiv Sena, which he formed to accord dignity to Maharashtrians but which became known as a party of restless youngsters out for trouble. He was a demogogue whose strong views polarised the polity at the state and the national level, but he never flinched from expressing himself with conviction despite opposition. The posterboy of rightwing Hindu and Marathi chau
