A total of 11 countries are allowed Visa on Arrival and in addition to those countries the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved to include 3 new European countries to the list: France, Germany and Russia.
According to the Cushman & Wakefield Survival to Supremacy report released in September 2012, this is expected to maintain the growth of the number of FTAs in to the country, allowing the country to become a major tourist destination, which in turn is expected to boost travel and tourism’s contribution to GDP by 7.3 percent.

Japan overtook New Zealand and has been granted 1872 visas on arrival this year. The processing fee which is about $60 is said to reportedly pinch the Japanese tourists who have expressed their unhappiness over the high fees charged by New Delhi to grant them such a visa.
In the case of Japan, people seeking Indian visa from the Embassy in Tokyo pay only US $18.
New Zealand has slipped to number two in this list and were granted 1588 visas on arrival. It should be noted that New Zealand is the first only non-Asian country to be granted this status. Around 55 percent of the tourists who visit are male
Indonesia had 1,514 visas issued in July 2012. According to an Economic Times report released last year, Indonesians were the largest group of tourists who availed the Visa on Arrival scheme to visit India in April 2011
Philippines has recently thrown open its doors for Indian tourists. They can now avail a visa on arrival for two weeks provided Indians hold a valid visa from any of the six countries: US, Canada, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and UK. Meanwhile, 1,442 Filipino tourists were granted visas on arrival in India.

- Singapore is yet another Asian country that can avail of this facility. As many as 1,178tourists availed visas on arrival. In 2012, Singaporeans led in the number of tourists, about 1040, being granted the visa on arrival and the number of males and females visiting is the same at 23 percent.
