Salaries increase in saudi arabia, abudhabi

Salaries in the Kingdom, Qatar and the UAE are expected to increase by five percent to six percent next year, says a new survey. Multinationals in the UAE pay 13 percent higher than local companies when it comes to base salaries, according to Mercer's 2012 Total Remuneration Survey (TRS). It also said that 70 percent of GCC companies surveyed looking to increase head count in the coming year. The future looks bright for the GCC workforce, as companies across the region predict salary increases for employees in the coming year, according to Mercer's survey. In addition, the survey conducted in the six GCC markets highlighted that more than 70 percent of surveyed organizations are anticipating growth within various departments as they look to accelerate recruitment in 2013. In total, close to 500 firms across various industries were surveyed, with results forecasting a rise in salaries by 5 percent in the UAE, 5.6 percent in Qatar and 6 percent in Saudi Arabia during

Dubai's Taj mahal

Plans to build a mega replica of Taj Mahal in Dubai have prompted angry reaction from heritage groups in India, UAE daily newspaper 7DAYS reported on Tuesday. The groups that include an ex-Indian mayor, called the Dubai project “wrong and absurd” and said it would “belittle’ the sacredness of the 460-year-old marble masterpiece, the report claimed. Indian businessman Arun Mehra, who announced the launch of the project last month at the cost of $1 million (AED 3.6 billion), said that the Indian outcry is just out of jealousy. “They [protesters] are jealous … of course they are. Obviously,” Mehra was quoted as saying by 7DAYS. “I’ve observed the comments that came out from the ex-mayor of Agra (the home of Taj Mahal) saying tourism is going to drop, but once people come and see ours, they’ll go and see theirs,” he added. Taj Arabia, which Mehra confirmed will be finished by the end of 2014 and will be four times bigger than the original Taj Mahal, will be primarily a hotel - with the

Man arrested in dubai mall

An Emirati man has been arrested after an undercover cop spotted him at a Dubai mall wearing nothing but his underwear and a pair of shoes, UAE daily newspaper Gulf News reported on Tuesday. The 20-year-old, who works for a government department, was one of five arrested over the Eid weekend after the pulling the prank at the vast Dubai Mall, the report added. “The man who was wearing his white cotton underwear was naked on the top,” Lt Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Merri, director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police, was quoted as saying by Gulf News. “The five accused are facing charges of indecent behaviour in public. The mall is used by families, women and children and such improper behaviour is unacceptable,” he added. The defendants, who were apparently sober and not under the influence of any drugs, said the prank was just for fun, but Al Merri said their excuse was unacceptable, the report claimed. “The men were not bailed out by us and they are still

Honda teases sleek Brio sedan

Honda has published an official teaser image of the Brio Sedan on its Thailand website. Contrary to some despicable 'rendered images' put out by some Indian automobile websites, the Brio sedan has a very futuristic design, with cues taken from the Honda City. The company hasn't divulged any information beyond the above photo. However, what we can clearly see are the i-VTEC badge on the car's rear and '1.2' written on the image. These clearly suggest the car will be powered by the Brio hatchback's 1.2 litre i-VTEC motor. Rumour has it that the Brio Sedan will also get a scaled down version of the 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Although there's no official word on this yet, expect a 1.5 litre diesel Brio sedan by April 2013. Being a sub-4metre car, the Brio sedan will take on the Maruti Dzire, Tata Indigo eCS and the Mahindra Verito CS that will be launched by March 2013. Talk of th

Toxic gas leak from oil well sparks Kuwait alert

Health officials warned Kuwaitis to stay inside and seal doors and windows tightly on Wednesday after toxic gas leaked from an oil well north of Kuwait City. Residents in areas as far as 100 kilometres (60 miles) away reported smelling the rotten-egg odour of potentially poisonous hydrogen sulphide gas. Kuwait Oil Co said it had set fire to the well in the huge Rawdatin oilfield close to the border with Iraq, which had sharply reduced the leak. KOC chairman Sami al-Rasheed told state television monitoring stations across Kuwait had found hydrogen sulphide concentrations far below danger levels. The oil and gas leak happened in the afternoon due to a very high pressure of crude but the incident caused no casualties, KOC said earlier. An industry source said KOC evacuated workers from near the well as a precautionary measure. Kuwait pumps around three million barrels per day of crude oil whose income makes up more than 94 percent of the Gulf state's revenues.
