Indian Olympic medalists

 MY BEST WISHES
Since it first participated in Olympic Games in 1900 at Paris, India has won 26 medals.
Of these, 9 are gold (8 in field hockey, 1 in shooting);
6 silver (2 in athletics, 1 in field hockey, 2 in shooting and 1 in wrestling); and 11 bronze.
Not much to boast about, really, but in a country that has no real, systematic sporting culture it is stirring to see some of its sons and daughters overcome great odds and succeed against the best in the world. What motivates these champions is awesome passion, immense talent, great mental strength and the burning desire to be the best that you can be. So here are India’s Olympic medal winners, who did the country proud and imparted further credibility to an Olympic motto: ‘The essence lies not in the victory, but also in the struggle’

India will return with its best-ever Olympics medal tally from the London Games. If there is anything missing, it is a gold and that has been somewhat made up by two silver medals out of a total of six.The performance of the Indians is indeed creditable as the expectations were also realistic, though some might argue that Indian men should have got medals from the boxing ring and the women from the archery arena.While shooting and wrestling led the charge with two medals each (one silver and one bronze in each of the disciplines), two other finishes on the podium were from badminton and women's boxing. India finished 55th on the medals table, 10 rungs higher than their count at Beijing

DMK POLITICIAN VEERAPANDI ARUMUGAM PASSES AWAY IN CHENNAI HOSPITAL

Former Minister and senior DMK leader Veerapandi S Arumugam passed away at a hospital in Chennai today. Arumugam was hospitalised some days ago due to breathing difficulties. His end came this morning, sources said. He was born on 26 January 1937 in Pollavari, Salem, and was a strongman of the DMK in that area. He was recently under the Goondas Act and was later let off.

Bal Thackeray life history
